bianca gabrielle goyette is a multi-media and performing artist based in Angel Fire, NM. She is a papermaker, a sculptor, a writer, a performer/vocalist, and a photographer working in still and moving pictures. She uses overlapping words and imagery to erode the distance between understanding and perception, working with materials and processes that speak to the strength and fragility of the human condition. Her work focuses on the complications of language and interpretation as they relate to racial and gender traditions. bianca’s work is a concentrated exploration of societal issues centered around communication, language, and community (or the lack thereof). She is interested in the blurred lines that delineate the (para)ontological spectrum of humanity.

bianca creates to bring people together: to start productive and constructive conversations. Everything she does relates to the voice, to language, to our ability to communicate what we need and want to convey. And to the ability of others (and sometimes ourselves) to disrupt that voice. We are both the disruptor and the disrupted. The layering of voices, of sounds, of histories, and imagery atop one another that creates so much there is a lacking. Because when we layer too much, we all become one, and although unity can be freeing, it can also be an agent of drowning.

bianca hold an MFA in Studio Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and a BFA in Photography from Parsons School of Design. She has exhibited work in Miami Art Week (Scope), Chicago, New York, and New Mexico. She has released three studio albums and six singles and toured around the United States. She is also a creative director and copywriter with A51 Technology & Design, specializing in the fabrication of digital assets and experiences that shift how we interact with and perceive the world.

intro.

Every 17 years or so, a brood of cicadae emerges from the ground.  They use a perpetual vibratory communication system to create a variable symphony.  Their ‘words’ crescendo through day and night until their mission is complete.  But until then, their sounds mix with other cicadae broods, with the crickets, the wind, bees, birds, and every other natural orchestration that fills the air and the land.  And at times, with the not-so-natural.  If you listen closely, you might notice the disruption of the rhythmic vibration that occurs when a truck or a plane, or a loud human noise passes through.  The cicadae lose their rhythm, their synchronization.

Whereas to interpret is an act of processing one thing into a tangible thing that moderates the expectations of.  It is an action.  An attraction.  A form of transference.  It is the way shit be.  But in no way the way shit be. It is an analysis of.  An analyzation of.  An annihilation of.  A product of history or histories that converge but do not intersept or intersect.  It is a cross-referencing of facts that are or are not truth. It does or does not exist predicate the existence of.  It is an effect of, an affect of.  It is the perception of referential data into a concise alignment of new data.  It is a thing to do.  It is a thing done to.  It is a convergence of.  It forecasts.  It disrupts.  It veers from and to and with.  It is mis-information.  It is (con)jecture. It is.
